This. This is it.
I adore absolutely everything about this rosé. Seriously. It’s perfect.
I’m not the only one who thinks so, either. It has over 7,000 ratings on Vivino.com, in addition to being in the top 9% of wines on the site.
Oh, and the best part? It’s only $12.99 at O’Malia’s, and under $15 at most liquor stores.
The rosé in question is the Rosé of Malbec made by Crios de Susana Balbo, a winery in Argentina.
The type of grape this rosé originates from is in it’s name, Malbec.
Malbec grapes originated in France but soon found their forever home in Argentina. The grape thrives in the Argentinean climate, which is responsible for producing 75% of the world’s acres used to grow Malbec. It particularly loves growing in higher altitudes, which helps it maintain some zesty acidity. A thicker skin on this grape also gives the wine rich, balanced tannins and a beautiful plum color.
This rosé, however, is rose colored.
Crios’ rosé is the best of both worlds, that is to say a fantastic combination of sweet and dry. The Malbec grape lends it’s rounded tannins to the wine, while fruity flavors make it a classic rosé.
It tastes best chilled and/or straight from the bottle, beginning with sweet notes of cherry and strawberry and finishing with juicy tannins and crisp tones of apple and lemon.
The cherry on top of this amazing AND affordable rosé is the fact it’s produced by a female-owned winery.
Susana Balbo was the first woman in Argentina to graduate with a degree in enology, which is the science of wine and wine-making. She held positions at many esteemed wineries before creating her own in 1999. Since then, she’s lended her expertise on an International scale, won many awards and in 2018 she was honored by The Drink Business magazine as one of the top ten most influential women in wine.
In light of International Women’s Day this past Sunday, that makes this rosé all the more sweeter.
Love the idea of a woman owned winery!
