Wine Wednesday: Barefoot Pinot Grigio

Is it just me, or is white wine a perfect dinner drink? I’ve mentioned before that it’s usually not my favorite, and I know that different meals have their own appropriate pairings, but I’ve always been the most fond of white wines at dinnertime. One glass of a nice, dry variety really hits the spot with my favorite meal of the day. It might also be because I could drink any wine at any time, but I always enjoy sharing a bottle of white with my family.

A glass of Pinot Grigio and a warm helping of cioppino.
(Don’t be alarmed by all the tentacles, my mom hates that part of the squid so she gives me any from her bowl.)

For this Wine Wednesday, I did just that. My family and I enjoyed the white wine that my father selected to go with our hump-day dinner. Alongside our cioppino, an Italian-American seafood stew, we drank Barefoot’s Pinot Grigio.

Barefoot Wine is a very popular California label known for it’s affordable yet great-tasting wines. Their iconic footprint logo is instantly recognizable to both wine experts and novices. They take a fun and accessible approach to wine that is reflected in their massive variety and price. Not to mention their current winemaker is Jennifer Wall, the world’s most awarded winemaker. Barefoot’s business approach and their well-made wines are the reason they’ve won over 2,000 awards, medals and accolades.

Seafood is always a great pairing with white wine, and this Pinot Grigio was no exception. My dad added some calamari to the pre-made cioppino we purchased from local grocer Hegedorns and cooked it up in the wine as well.

I’m not the biggest fan of white wine, but as I said before, you can’t go wrong when drinking it with some seafood. A wine more on the dry side like Pinot Grigio makes for a great pairing with cioppino as well because it lends some crisp, citrus flavors to the brothy Italian dish.

Out of 15,038 ratings on Vivino the wine has a 3.4 rating and boasts being an easy drink with notes of citrus, pear and green apple. My father picked this up in a case with other Barefoot Wines he got from Lisa’s Liquor Barn, but it should be available in your local liquor store between $5-7.

While it’s not the most fantastic or fancy white wine, for an easy Wednesday night dinner, Barefoot’s Pinot Grigio is an excellent choice.
