Last Spring, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to study abroad in the city of New Castle in England. Upon my travels, I went to many places including Scotland, Prague, Budapest, France, and of course Italy! My cousin and I got in touch with an aunt of ours that we had never met before and she allowed us to stay in her home in Rome. We were beyond grateful and excited to meet new family, and explore the city we always dreamt of visiting.
We were welcomed with homemade lasagna and the next morning, our cousin showed us all around the city. Being there made me feel connected and appreciative of my culture whilst getting in touch with my roots. We visited the major landmarks in Rome such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Roman Forum, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica all in a span of two days! Just walking around in Rome felt like a dream that I never wanted to wake up from.
Now when in Rome, it is essential that you try the food and wine! One of my favorite parts of the trip was trying the delicious authentic dishes I’ve experienced all my life, but in Italy this time! I had pasta with amatriciana sauce, gnocchi, tiramisu, cannolis and more. Food in my culture is such a delicacy and has made me realize it should be appreciated. Every dish I had in Italy was perfect and I wish I could go back in time to experience it all over again.
