Although Covid-19 has ruined many many things, it will not ruin Easter! In this post I will talk about some of my favorite traditions my family does for Easter Sunday each year. Usually, preparation for Easter is much more intensive, but this year is obviously going to be a lot different. Every year, all of my family members gather at my house for the holiday, and everyone brings an appetizer or a dessert, while Ma does the rest of the cooking (don’t worry, she gets a lot of help).
We usually have a 3 course meal consisting of Italian wedding soup, homemade pasta, and a ham to finish off the meal. There are about 45-50 people who attend the party, so before you judge us, we’re Italian…we know how to eat!! After dinner, a little Easter egg hunt is set up for the younger kids, followed by dessert and coffee. Dessert consists of homemade Easter cut-out cookies, a fruit bowl, Italian cookies, sometimes a cake of some sort and cannolis. If you think this is a lot, then don’t even get me started on what our Christmas looks like!
I’m always so excited to celebrate Easter with my family because it’s so nice having everyone together after the long winter. If the weather is nice, we will usually go outside to play a game of kickball or just sit outside with our coffee and dessert to enjoy the sun.
Unfortunately, none of these traditions are happening this year, except for the soup and some of the other foods mentioned. Due to the virus, only the family members in my household and a couple others will be attending Easter this year. Ma is still making Italian wedding soup (bless her heart), and we will still be having pasta, just not homemade. It’s so sad that we aren’t able to celebrate the way we always do this year, but we have to make do with the situation! I would like to make some sort of Easter themed dessert to have at our celebration, which will hopefully brighten some spirits! What are you and your family doing or not doing to celebrate Easter this year? No matter what you are doing for the holiday, make sure to think positive, and take a deep breath! We will get through this, happy cooking!
