Should a Journalist Use Grammarly?

I shouldn’t be admitting this, but over a year now, I have been using Grammarly.

I know what you’re thinking. Shouldn’t a journalist have perfect grammar and no spelling mistakes? And yes, you’d be correct.

But this isn’t a perfect world. Journalists are still human, and humans make mistakes from time to time. That’s why copy editors exist.

Grammarly is a unique tool. I highly suggest it to anyone that feels insecure having red marks on their papers. Or to those that feel Word isn’t getting the job done.

I use Grammarly as a safety blanket. It catches any minor mistakes that I may have overlooked.

I fell in love with Grammarly when I noticed how much it’d improved my writing. I didn’t realize how often I used unconfident words such as “really” and “I would like.” It has changed the way I write.

To those that are afraid to use a tool such as this one, give it a try. There’s a free version that I used for months before I decided to get the premium version.

You’d be surprised at what Grammarly finds.
