Thank You Emails

“ What’s the point of a thank you an email? I’ve never sent one” this is often the response I receive whenever I mention a thank you email to others that aren’t within my field.

A few days ago, I sent a thank you email to someone that interviewed me for an opportunity.

It wasn’t anything fancy. It was only a few quick sentences thanking them for their time. I also asked for any suggestions for improvements in regards to my interview skills.

If you know me, then you know I’m huge on learning and figuring out ways to improve myself. That doesn’t stop when it comes to interviews. I take the opportunity to grow by asking that question in my thank you emails.

Did I have to send that email? No. But I’ve been taught over my college education that sending a thank you email/follow up email makes all the difference.

I’ve heard first hand from news directors that a thank you email or note can be the make it or break it of an individual getting the position over someone else.

Send the thank you email, or, better yet, mail a handwritten note if possible.
