Snowballing into and Avalanche

Have you ever gotten sick and it just shut down your whole week?

You wake up one morning completely fine and then the next day you feel like a dirty & soaked sponge unable to perform the most basic of functions.

As you can probably imagine I was sick this past week and am still getting over it. It has been so long that I had not gotten sick that I completely forgot the toll it does to the mental.

I can say it most certainly amplified a loss in desire to complete tasks. Even something as mundane as doing my laundry felt like a 5 page critical thinking essay with text based details due in 24 hours.

However I will say, it reminded me that it’s okay to “retreat” from time to time. The daily battles that life ambushes us with are not all going to be won and they most certainly will not all be easy fought.

Every so often you will have to bring your brain back to base camp to rest up and save it’s strength for the future fights to come. Rather than forcing yourself to gear up and set out on a mission that seems doomed before you even leave the house.

This also applies to overthinking as it starts to metamorphosize into a manic attack. If your thoughts keep snowballing into an avalanche, don’t try to go skiing.

In other words, if your brain is exhausted from something beyond the task your performing, perhaps take a second to rest and heal.

That being said, if the battle is a mental one you should try to find remedies that soothe whatever it is you’re experiencing (easier said than done I know).

Treat your mental health just as well as you treat your physical health. They go hand in hand, and if both hands are strong then you will be able to hold the whole world in them.
