Happy Wednesday Friends!
Today I bring to you one of my favorite ceramic artists, Anna Can Art!
She makes all sorts of ceramic art including mugs, trinket dishes, bowls, jars, bubblers, pipes and much more!
What drew me to her work in the first place is incredible detailing featured in each of her pieces. No two pieces are alike, and you can tell that she puts love into every piece she creates.
She’s inspired by a lot of other artists, and her works mainly feature designs of nature and femininity. Based in Santa Cruz, she finds motivation by continuing to discover new designs in her work.
Anna does a lot of videos on her Instagram where you can see her making work, which I personally enjoy seeing.
The process of ceramics is different for every artist, and I love being able to see it.
A lot of her designs are made by a technique called sgraffito, which is scratching through a layer of underglaze on leather-hard clay to create a design with contrasting colors. It’s a technique I personally love, and maybe will feature sometime in the future.
She’s been working with clay since high school, and has been running her business for 3 years now.
Recently, she and some of her have friends opened their own production studio at the Tannery Arts Center in Santa Cruz, it’s a dream come true for all of them.
I will continue to enjoy her work and follow her journey into the ceramic artistry world, and I sincerely hope you all do too.
I’ve left some of my favorite examples of her ceramic work below!
