Did you know there’s a cruise just for emos?
Me neither, until I read Jon Hadusek’s article in Consequence Sound, stating that the second annual “Emo’s Not Dead Cruise” would be taking place in February of 2024.
Headliners for the cruise classic favorites like Yellowcard, Mayday Parade, and Story of the Year.
The cruise will also feature emo-themed events like a live emo karaoke band (so cool!) and “Emo Casino” plus more fun non-themed events like a belly-flop contest.
My style of emo is typically more in keeping with stuff from the 2010s – as regular readers might know – but this seems like an interesting way to incorporate the recent resurgence of emo with new business models.
If bands like Yellowcard and the other headliners were at their peak of popularity in the 90s and 2000s, then many of their longtime fans are now in their 30s and 40s, so putting them on a cruise rather than a typical concert venue seems pretty ingenious.
What do you guys think? Is this a cool new way to market to a specific demographic of emo fans, or is this a gimmick? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
