As someone who was really into emo as a teenager, I often find myself listening to the same few bands that I loved when I was younger. The nostalgia always hits different, even if some of the albums I listen to were out long before I was born.
Sometimes, we need a little more variety in our lives to spice things up. Andrew Sacher over at Brooklyn Vegan compiled 25 newer emo bands for the 2000s emo lovers to add to their rosters.
You can read the article here to find all the bands, but I especially wanted to highlight this list because it has a great variety of acts on there! You’ve got women, queer people, and people of color on there, and I will always be about uplifting minority artists, especially in the alternative scene when many of the most famous acts are straight white guys.
The list is super easy to navigate too. Each act on the list has a blurb about them, as well as a subheading to tell readers which more famous and well-known acts inspired these new bands. That way, you can look for your favorite bands in the subheadings to find which new bands you’ll like best.
These subheadings have all kinds of bands too, such as Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Third Eye Blind, Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance, Thursday, New Found Glory, and Thrice, to name a few.
Personally, I’m most excited to start listening to Carly Cosgrove, Meet Me @ The Altar, Pinkshift, and Save Face!
Huge thanks to the folks at Brooklyn Vegan for putting this list together and giving more visibility to newer acts in the alternative scene.
