Unless you were under a rock, this entire year, you probably have heard about the try guys and their controversy. This controversy came to the public in a slowly, but surely manner. This is due to the fact that there was speculation about an affair for many weeks before there was anything confirmed by the company.

The try guys are a YouTube channel that became very popular due to their videos of them trying things (hence the name). They gained notoriety for their personalities and videos which catapulted them into stardom.

Each of the people in the group had a unique personality. One of the members, named Ned Fulmer, based his entire personality around the fact that he loved his wife. He would mention it in multiple videos, and everybody knew him as the wife guy.

When you have a reputation like that, it is hard for people to see when you betray the reputation that you have publicly put out. This is exactly what happened.

Photographs of Ned and his new girl starting to spread around the Internet. They were photographed, eating together, kissing at a concert and walking together through New York City. The fans knew that, and that was married and yet Ned still flaunted his new girl around.

Fans quickly speculated that there was an affair, and posted their theories on Reddit. These were only theories, until they became confirmed.

Ned and the try guys both posted messages on their Instagram. The try guys posted about how they were going to distance themselves from Ned and that he was not a part of the group anymore. Ned posted that he hadn’t made a mistake and was sorry for his wife, who was publicly humiliated by him.

These spread all around the Internet, and the try guys became known as a group surrounded in controversy. This is much different than the carefully planned persona that they had put forward in the public eye. This is an example of when your reputation can make what you do in life, even more impactful to the audience.
