Fine Line: The New Album by Harry Styles

Hi everyone! Welcome to my first actual post for my blog, Take Note with Maddy. In this weeks post, we are going to be looking at the album Fine Line by popular artist, Harry Styles.

For starters, I will give you some background on the artist themselves. Harry Styles is a popular artist from Worcestershire, England. In 2010, he auditioned as a solo artist for the X-Factor UK. After his audition, he was originally going to be sent home until judge Simon Cowell decided to put him and four other guys who audition into a group. This group ended up being called One Direction and it was very soon after the group formed that they became an international sensation. The band went on to release five albums and went on four world tours. In 2016, the band decided to go on hiatus after their fourth tour and after releasing their fifth album. We did not hear from them for a while until 2017 when Harry hinted that he would be releasing solo music. His first solo album, HS1, was released in May of 2017. Later in December of 2019, is when he would release his second album, Fine Line, which I will be talking about today.

As mentioned, Harry Styles released his second debut album, Fine Line, in December of 2019. He released the first single from the album in October, which was the song Lights Up. He finally released that he was going to be putting out an album in November as well as giving us the track list, which I have included a picture of! All 12 songs have had a very positive reaction and they all consist of a different type of style.

Here is the track-list!

As soon as the album was released, people were raving about it and had plenty of things to say. From music critics, to YouTubers, everyone was reacting to this album. In an article by Rolling Stone, they had all good things to say about this album. In their article they go a lot into the brilliance behind some of the lyrics in his songs. “If the “I just miss your accent and your friends” breadcrumbs in “Cherry” don’t suffice, the recording of Rowe giggling and speaking in French should take them home.” is a quote from their article referring to one of the songs, Cherry, on his album that is all about a breakup he went through. Another music critic website, Honey Punch Mag, wrote an article about this album. To start off, they say “There’s a sort of enchanting power to it, in which Styles invites us into his private world, blurring the ever present line between fan and friend.” This article then dives into a track by track review of the album. They had all good things to say about the variety of style this album has and how much some of the lyrics will truly stick out to you. As well as all the online reviews this album got, it also got a good amount of awards. Here are a list of some of the awards he won for this album.

American Music Awards: Favorite Pop/rock album

GAFFA awards: “Watermelon Sugar”: International Hit of the Year

Global Awards: “Lights up”: Best song

Grammy Awards: Best Pop Solo Performance for Watermelon Sugar

iHeart Radio Music awards: Best lyrics: “Adore You”

Juno Awards: International Album of the year

Now for my personal opinion, I think this album was incredible. Now I am a Harry Styles fan so I may sound biased, but this album was truly so well done. Each song has it’s own story and has a different style to it, which keeps it exciting. This is an album that if I am in a bad mood, I can out it on and I will instantly feel better.
