This movie is the perfect mix of action and crime with many moments of comedic relief. I believe that this is a movie that can be enjoyed alone or with others. However, I would not recommend watching with children. It is rated R for many reasons including strong use of language, inappropriate references, violence, and drug/alcohol content.
Ratings/Award(s)
I personally love the versatility of this movie. Although it is crime and action packed, I find there are many moments where I get a good laugh in. It can be quite slow at moments, but speeds up when you least expect it. Definitely keeps me on my toes whenever I watch it. I personally would rate this movie 4 out of 5 stars.
Rotten tomatoes rated it 75% on the tomatometer and 84% on the audience score. The movie was also rated 7.8 out of 10 stars on IMDb.
The Gentlemen received an award from the British Film Designers Guild Awards in 2020.
Summary
The film revolves around the American protagonist Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) and his marijuana empire hidden throughout London. Problems arise when he decides that he wants to sell the business. There are many antagonists who try to rob, blackmail, bribe and kill for this million dollar empire.
The story is told from an antagonist Fletcher’s (Hugh Grant) recollection of events. Therefore, it goes from story telling to the events being discussed throughout the movie. Because of this, the film is not presented in chronological order like typical movies. There are a lot of jumps from different events in various points of time. This can make it complicated to keep up with at times, but all ties together in the end.
Tune into The Gentlemen on Netflix to see how it all plays out!
