My Collection ♡
I first started collecting Squishmallows during the start of COIVD-19. They were becoming very popular on the app TikTok with people my own age and some that were younger than I was. I knew that I would be going to college and maybe a twenty-year-old girl shouldn’t just go out and buy stuffed animals. However, I during the start of COVID (March 2020) I was very bored and needed something to do. I got my sister on-board, and we would scour the Internet looking for these plushies. We found out that a store called Five Below, a chain of specialty discount stores, sold 8in Squishmallows for $5.55. I knew that Squishmallows were being sold for crazy amounts online at websites like eBay, Mercari, and Amazon.
We found that Five Below was going to have a shipment of Squishmallows one weekend in the summer of 2020, so we decided to take a trip to our nearest Five Below in Buffalo, NY. We drove about an hour and 20 mins to the Five and Below, and… you guessed it (maybe not), there were NO SQUISHMALLOWS. Instead of being disappointed, we decided to look up what other stores Squishmallows were being sold at. We found that TJMaxx and Target also sold Squishmallows. We stopped at Target first and…NO SQUISHMALLOWS…again! Our final destination, besides a quick lunch trip to Sonic, was TJMaxx. Morale was low, so we weren’t really expecting much. However, in the baby section in the VERY back of the store, there it was…three Squishmallows. I decided that since we didn’t find any all day, I would get one no matter what it was. My first one was a Baron the Bear (Valentine’s Day Edition).
Since then, I have been slowly growing my collecting. Granted a lot of the Squishmallows that I have were given to me as gifts (85.71% as a matter of fact lol). Right now, if I see any Squishmallows at a store, I will look at them but usually won’t get one. I am only really in search of a handful of specific Squishmallows. The following Squishmallows are on my ISO list (in-search-of): Caedyn the Cow, Andres the Sheltie, Bubba the Cow, Melina the Octopus, and Eeyore. (Also, slight plug: go check out the Squishmallows tab to see the bios on these guys!) A lot of my friends also collect Squishmallows! If I see some that I know my friends are looking for I usually try to pass the message along or we just go on Squish-Hunts together! Since being in college is stressful, it’s nice to go out with friends and look for something that will give you some serotonin. You even can make a whole day out of it and get lunch or dinner, just having a self-care/shopping day!
