UCONN Repeats as National Champion: Will they get to Three?

The University of Connecticut (UCONN) has won its second consecutive National Championship, becoming the first team to repeat since the University of Florida in 2006 and 2007. Now the question is will they be the first team to win three in a row since UCLA won seven straight in the late 60s and early 70s?

From a betting standpoint, UCONN has the third-best odds to be next year’s National Champion at +1300 (FanDuel). The two schools in front of them are Duke and Kansas, at +1100 and +1200 respectively.

But odds aren’t everything, and it’s rare for a team that comes into the season as such a tight favorite to win the championship. However, I agree with the odds on this one.

UCONN will be losing three of their five starters Tristen Newton, Alex Karaban, and Donovan Clingan to the NBA Draft. And yes, they lost starters last season and repeated this year, but Karaban is a pivotal loss in my opinion.

Looking at the starting lineup from the past two seasons, Karaban is the only one to be in both. He is a key player in the UCONN offense and improved the UCONN defense immensely this past season.

So you can quote me on it hear, UCONN will not be “three-peating” next season and we will see a new National Champion.
