Caleb Williams: The Greatest NFL Prospect of the 21st Century?

Logan Sherwood Avatar

Okay, don’t jump at me on the title of this article. But it’s not too far-fetched. Caleb Williams is without a doubt one of the most anticipated NFL prospects in recent memory, up there with the likes of Trevor Lawrence, Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck.

I’d like to start this off by reiterating my title, and the word “prospect”. I am not guaranteeing he will go into the NFL Hall of Fame, but I am saying I think he is the most anticipated and talented player to ever enter the NFL.

So hear me out, I think Caleb Williams is more talented than any of those players previously listed. The comparison I like to use is to the current face of the NFL, Patrick Mahomes.

Coming out of college, Mahomes was a top prospect, but not to this extent. He fell to the Chiefs who had the tenth pick of the 2017 draft, with Mitchell Trubisky being drafted before him.

Now let me explain myself on that comparison, as Caleb Williams is not yet, and may never be Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is now a three-time Super Bowl champion and has multiple MVPs.

But I do think the two share a similar play style, with their sneaky athleticism and absolute mind-boggling throws. And to add to that point, Williams seems miles ahead of where Mahomes was at this stage of his career.

I can say with confidence that even if Williams were to not throw at his pro day (which I have no doubts he will throw at his pro day), he would still be the first overall pick this year. He has nothing left to prove to NFL scouts and I think few teams in the league would pass him up at this moment.

I have not seen a quarterback with the awareness and the arm talent that Caleb Williams has at this age in all 21 years of my life. I don’t know what else I can say to bolster my point, so I’ll attach a few clips to let his talent do the talking.
