Art Ross Trophy: Is McDavid Going to Four-peat?

Every NHL season, the player with the most points is given the Art Ross Trophy. For the past three seasons, that player has been Edmonton’s Connor McDavid… and he briefly took the lead this past weekend.

I’m going to start this off by saying no matter how some may feel about the current state of the NHL, Connor McDavid is by far the best player in the league.

Nathan MacKinnon has had a monstrous season there is no denying that, but I see no one but McDavid winning the Art Ross. To start this week, I believe McDavid was roughly ten points back from MacKinnon.

By the time I’m writing this on Sunday night, McDavid trails MacKinnon by just two points.

My roommate is probably ready to hit me in the head with how many times I’ve said in the past month “You know I think McDavid is still going to finish with the most points.” But it is going to happen.

MacKinnon, or Auston Matthews, will most likely win the Hart Memorial Trophy (NHL MVP). But you can argue which player would be more deserving of the Art Ross.

Nathan MacKinnon has 47 goals and 80 assists on the season (127 total points) while McDavid has 29 goals and 96 assists on the season (125 total points). I feel McDavid having 96 assists with the team surrounding him is ridiculous.

But before we can argue who is more deserving, someone has to win it. McDavid has to make up two points on MacKinnon and my prediction is he will be at the end of the season.
