Their acidic synthwork assails the eardrums, eating away at inhibitions with ferocious intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their daunting sound is comparable to the artwork for the group\u2019s <em>April Mixtape 2<\/em>. Schwaninger\u2019s ghostly vocals and Perez\u2019s keyboard appendages create vivid depictions of character, while the dark, negative-space bass lines are just as important to the portrait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their 2022 EP,<em> Fast and Slow, Vol 1<\/em>, warps the tempo of their already demented strain of synth music. A modern alt-country, shoegaze fusion, bootgaze if you will, is on the rise. Nevertheless, the Burlington, Vermont 7-piece band is much more than a simple two genre mixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group plays swooning pedal steel melodies and warm jets of horn (in particular, trumpet and saxophone) amidst boppy indie-rock intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll encounter all of this in \u201cColorado,\u201d just one serving of rustic noise-rock from Freeman\u2019s standout debut,<em> I Looked Out<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spooked by his own poetic clarity, the multiple narrative song is a speeding trajectory towards the truth of who-knows-what. Freeman\u2019s off-his-rocker, careening delivery is the album&#8217;s most unhinged as his uneasy yelps crack under the weight of the subject matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the love of this raucous Vermonter\u2019s down-home distortions, please let his tunes whip your speaker system into shape on your next roadtrip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/soundafide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/body-meat-year-of-the-orc-Cover-Art.jpg?resize=600%2C600&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/soundafide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/body-meat-year-of-the-orc-Cover-Art.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/soundafide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/body-meat-year-of-the-orc-Cover-Art.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/soundafide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/body-meat-year-of-the-orc-Cover-Art.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Year of the Orc<\/em> by Body Meat<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Body Meat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Genre-non-conformist, Body Meat, discombobulates music in the best way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On his projects, <em>Truck Music<\/em> and <em>Year of the Orc<\/em>, confounding footwork-influenced drum patterns hold the stage, skittering into chaos while defying Western Music conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Christopher Taylor, born from an Irish mother and Ethiopian father, is the Philadelphia-based musician behind these disorienting creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/features\/rising\/get-to-know-body-meat-a-philly-weirdo-whos-rewriting-the-rules-of-rhythm\/\">Pitchfork<\/a>, Taylor said that \u201cPeople call them <em>weird<\/em> rhythms [yet] in other cultures these rhythms are normal. If you listen to Middle Eastern music, they think of rhythm in a completely different way. It\u2019s not weird. They just got more groove.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taylor\u2019s eccentric, auto-tune-drenched delivery weaves in between these patterns while remaining accessible to up-to-date experimental hip hop audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fit for endless listens, Body Meat songs sound less like experimental electronic clamoring and more like extraordinarily composed danceability with each spin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, Stevie Wonder is his half-brother\u2019s daughter\u2019s godfather.
