We’re doing things a little bit differently this week on Sampl’d. Instead of reviewing a reoccurring sampled track across different artists, I will be honing in on an individual artist and their mastery regarding sampling.<\/p>\n
Mariah Carey is hands-down my favorite artist. She is the No. 1 best-selling female recording artist of ALL TIME and holds the record for the most No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 with 19 songs– 18 of which she penned– by a solo artist.<\/p>\n
Many people marvel at the fact that Mariah writes her music. Although we don’t see her behind the keys or strumming a guitar, Mariah’s songwriting formula is just as impressive without her ability to read music or play an instrument.<\/p>\n
Her impeccable knowledge of how to construct a sung melody over the instrumentals of a sample holds just as much merit to her credit. Below are three of my favorite samples used in her music:<\/p>\n
