Miss Janet Damita Jo Jackson

Hello, readers!

This week on Sampl’d we have another artist pick instead of covering just one sampled track.

So I’ve broken down the musical mastery from two of my favorite artists already: Stevie Wonder and Mariah Carey. This week’s musician is the third in my Top 3 favorite artist category and that is Miss Janet Jackson.

Janet Jackson is not only a reveered singer, but a seamless dancer and actress as well. She has worked tirelessly over the years to make her own star shine and not get trapped under her brother, Michael’s, shadow.

Being involved with music since she was a little girl, Janet grew up listening to the infectious grooves of the R&B/Soul genre of the 70’s and 80’s that we’ve broken down nearly every week on this blog. In collaboration with the infamous R&B songwriting and record production team, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Janet has crafted beautiful melodies from the very music she grew up listening to.

Below I will be attaching clips from songs that Janet either pulled as a sample for her music as well as artists who have used Janet’s music in their track.

Change: Glow of Love (1980)

Janet Jackson: All For You (2001)

Janet Jackson: Any Time, Any Place (1993)

Kendrick Lamar: Poetic Justice ft. Drake (2012)

Joni Mitchell: Big Yellow Taxi (1970)

Janet Jackson: Got ‘Till It’s Gone ft. Q-Tip, Joni Mitchell (1997)

America: Ventura Highway (1972)

Janet Jackson: Someone to Call My Lover (2001)
