All about me!

Hey everybody! My name is Madeline Reid and I am a senior at SUNY Fredonia. I wanted to welcome you all to my blog and tell you a little bit about myself and what I’m about.  First and foremost I am a senior and athlete at SUNY Fredonia.

While I played volleyball in college, basketball was a sport I dedicated my life too. I started the sport around first or second grade and played all the way through high school. Basketball was the one sport that stayed consistent in my life. I was obsessed you could say.

I have always used sports as an outlet for stress and anxiety and I’m very passionate about the role sports play in mental health. When I was a senior in high school, I got hurt while playing and after my recovery, I decided it was best to not return to the sport that I loved.

When I stopped playing the guilt set in and I knew I made a  mistake. But coaching has shown me a whole other side of the game and I would like to share my insights with other                                                                                    people.

I am a strong advocate for mental health, especially when it comes to younger children who are heavily involved in sports. I hope to share some of my struggles, and to offer some suggestions to help combat mental health at a younger age, especially in sports.

I strive to instill a love for the game the same way my coaches did for me.

As much as being a player,  I am also a coach. I am earning my minor in athletic coaching.I have coached at my high school as well as my old Travel organization.

Full Court Hoops is a fantastic program in the Buffalo NY area to get kids playing basketball and to form lasting relationships with teammates. It’s amazing to get to play for them and now coach for them.

I hope that I can help players and coaches with all aspects of the game.
