Standing at 6’7 with a 7 foot wingspan, Scottie Barnes is a professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors in the National Basketball Association. Scottie is a Florida native. He entered the NBA as the fourth pick of the 2021 draft and since then has shown why he was chosen on the court. He is only twenty-one but is a star in the making. He takes a lot of inspiration from Magic Johnson. You can see that in the way he plays. He was most recently awarded rookie of the year award for his performance last year. He is the best overall player out of his draft class.
Scottie has shaped the identity of the Raptors team as the starting forward for the team all of the 2021 season. Scottie Barnes’ performance helped push his team to the playoffs. Scottie is the third player in the Raptors history to win the rookie of the year award. He now holds this prestigious title with Damon Stoudamire and Vince Carter. He was first informed of the title by Vince Carter and then was presented the title later in April.
His draft class was extremely talented but he outperformed them. He shows why he is well dissevering of the title on court. Many believe Evan Mobley or Cade Cunningham were as good or maybe even better because they were higher picks in the NBA draft. Each player’s stats are very similar to one another but what gives Scottie the edge over them is that when you compare him to other rookies he fits right in. Out of his entire draft class his presence made the most impact on his team. The Toronto Raptors made a great choice with choosing Scottie Barnes. I can’t wait to see what he will bring to this season.
