Let’s face it: if you were a kid in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, there’s a pretty damn good chance that your favorite cartoons came from Cartoon Network Studios. Founded on October 21, 1994 as a division of Hanna-Barbera (y’know, the guys who made the Flintstones), until it was all absorbed into Warner Brothers Animation on March 12, 2001. Cartoon Network Studios (and Cartoon Network the…network) were responsible for a wide swath of incredibly huge and immensely well known cartoons that formulated a large chunk of early 2000’s kids’ childhood.
One of the biggest and coolest cartoons to come out of Cartoon Network studios was Samurai Jack. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim in 2001, Samurai Jack followed the story of a time-travelling samurai called…well, Jack. Duh.
Jack sets out to free his kingdom and his people after they’re taken over by an evil, shapeshifting demon lord known as Aku. The two engage in an epic and fierce battle, but just as Jack is about to land the final blow, Aku sends him forward in time to a dystopian future ruled by the tyrannical demon.
Pretty cool, right? Well, like I said, that’s only ONE of them. Cartoon Network Studios did so much for our childhood cartoons, and gave us so many amazing shows that still keep us entertained even today. Examples include:
So…why talk about it? I mean, it’s not really like Cartoon Network Studios is closed, is it? Well, no. But I think I speak for a large amount of old school fans like myself (old school as in 2002 onwards) when I say that the modern cartoons we’re getting really aren’t up to the same par as the old ones.
But that’s neither here nor there. I just wanted to regale you on the lovely story of Cartoon Network Studios.
After all, they made your childhood.
