For obvious reasons of not being 21 yet (I will be soon tho!) I have little to no experience of frequenting any bars in Fredonia. YET, being 18+ allows me to go to almost any gay club/bar in our area.
It is just honestly a different atmosphere, people love you for YOU. Regardless of who you are, you can have an amazing night dancing and enjoying the company of other people. For the most part, it does not matter how you identify, at the gay club you are celebrated. The one thing that I love most about gay bar’s is it’s ability to create and establish a community.
I recently had the privilege of attending a Drag Show in Buffalo with my good friends. One of my besties was actually performing that night so I simply had to support!
I was only there to spectate, but to my surprise I was further involved than I expected to be. Upon arrival I was immediately swept to go backstage. Now, the glitz, glamor, and disco balls that you see on the stage contrasts heavily with the low lighting and eerie basement vibes of the backstage.
Regardless, it was a room full of other Drag performers full of personality and vibrancy. This was my first time being surrounded with people just like me in a long while.
I met amazing performers, stylish muses, and all-around great people. And although I was not a part of the lineup, I was welcomed by these statuesque women in eight-inch heels.
All through the night I found myself having conversations with the queens, helping to zip-up dresses, and glued down wigs to help these performers be the best versions of themselves upon the stage.
This was a very valuable experience for me, although I was not a performer of the night I truly felt all the love in the world.
