To some Saturday Night Live is a specific topic to make a whole website about. But it is loved by more people than meets the eye. Saturday Night Live has been around since 1975. This means it has the potential of almost 50 years of audiences that love the cult classic show. With the results of a survey that was sent out for this website, most people are interested in how the host is picked and what that process looks like.
From what I can conclude the main why the host is determined is by either their current popularity or if they have someone coming out soon. For example, when John Mulaney hosted, he had two main reasons to host. The first reason is that he has a new Netflix special coming out called Baby J that he was looking to promote and gain traction on. Bill Hader plays Stephon. This character starts with being in a skit where Stephon is trying to pitch a movie to investors. There are about three versions of this skit. Then, this was catapulted into being opposite of Seth Meyers. This really set up the character to grow into something larger than itself.
The role of Stephon is to tell local New Yorkers or tourists about activities and mainly the hottest clubs to visit while they are in the area. A fun fact about this is that Mulany would always change one line of the cue card to surprise Hader and it makes it ten times funnier in the final product.
