For &#8220;Miss Saigon&#8221; the signature moment was the helicopter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was so surprised and amazed when the helicopter entered the stage. It was an amazing part of the set design.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Miss Saigon&#8221; tells the story of a White American soldier falling in love with a Vietnamese girl during the Vietnam War.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The musical was praised many times for having a diverse cast and showing the Vietnamese perspective of the war.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/2ilzuj2qwzcp108wp6fcjpt1-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/03.MISS_SAIGON_TOUR_9_19_18_1050-r-photo-by-Matthew-Murphy-1-scaled.jpg\"><\/a>The musical is also criticized for its stereotypical depiction of Asian women as prostitutes and Asian men as cold and treacherous.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-medium\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/letstalkabouttheatre\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image-12.png?resize=300%2C189&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/letstalkabouttheatre\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image-12.png?resize=300%2C189&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/letstalkabouttheatre\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image-12.png?resize=768%2C485&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fredstories.com\/letstalkabouttheatre\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/image-12.png?w=887&amp;ssl=1 887w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think this comes back to the importance of having discussions. <g class=\"gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"6\" data-gr-id=\"6\">Theater<\/g> is continuing to grow and educate others with their stories, but I don\u2019t think it has to stop there.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to continue the examination and discussion on stereotypes in theatre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar to what I said with Show Boat, instead of having the audience leave right after the show theaters should have an,\u00a0after the show discussion with the audience and Vietnamese cast members to discuss the story of the musical and the stereotypes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Theatre will continue to shine a light and reflect our society.
