\u201cIn the Heights\u201d is a beautiful musical that tells the story of individuals living with a minority immigrant community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It shows the systematic racism of being Dominican in the neighborhood of Washington Heights, New York City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The writer of \u201cIn the Heights\u201d, Lin Manuel Miranda, once said<\/g> \u201cAn artist\u2019s only responsibility is to be authentically true to yourself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only is the story beautiful, but it also stays authentic to casting. The entire cast of \u201cIn the Heights\u201d is in the Latino community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also has stayed true to the Latino Culture with dance and music. Many parts of the lyrics switch from English to Spanish throughout the performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One review from Variety by David Rooney stated, \u201cWhat makes \u2018In the Heights\u2019 so unique, however, is that driving pulse of its Latin- American rhythms, blending hip-hop, rap, jazz, pop, salsa, and merengue, this buoyant musical also nods reverently to the traditions of the show\u2026\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of authenticity in a Broadway show is incredibly important, especially when the story is centered around race.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Musical showed the significance of diversity and representation, and I hope to see more like this in Broadway\u2019s future years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
