Watching “The Lion King” for the first time in a theater is an unforgettable experience.

The Costumes, the set, the music, everything is incredibly striking.

The Director of “The Lion King”, Julie Taymor tends to get her ideas from sculpting wood and clay for the masks. She may have a picture in her head and try to get to it or experiment with different shapes and textures during the day.

Taymor started traveling around the world at age thirteen and continued to get inspiration from different cultures.

In 1998, Julie Taymor become a part of history by being the first woman to win a Tony Award of Best Direction of a Musical “The Lion King”.

More than 50 people of color were hired to work on set for the Lion King and casted in the musical. This amount of diversity was life changing.

She gave women all around the world the courage and inspiration to direct Broadway shows. Not only can they direct Broadway shows, but they can win Tony Awards for bringing significant and unforgettable work to the stage.
