You Got Games on Your Phone???

I am someone who’s mind is always going.

Whether it’s just how my brain is wired or a problem I deal with, it’s just kinda how it is for me.

This makes it hard for me to focus on one thing at a time, as well as put my complete effort towards a singular thing I am working toward.

Luckily I found a coping mechanism that works well for me, and maybe for you!

Something that I have noticed about myself is that I love puzzles, and I do not discriminate. I like jigsaw, crossword, sudoku- you name it.

I would not consider myself a creature of habit, but when it comes to my daily games/puzzles, that is something I will be completing every single day, no matter how busy I am.

So something that I do every morning while I eat my breakfast or while I’m waiting for my Starbucks order, is to go on the NYT app. I do the Wordle, Mini Crossword, and Sudoku.

While many would probably say that playing games on your phone is detrimental to your mental health- I would argue that it can help with your overall sanity.

With anything in life, if you abuse anything then it can become an issue. Mobile games, video games, and any form of entertainment can be addicting.

Fortunately, if you have an addictive personality this game limits you automatically.

That is, each of the games “end” once they have been solved. Meaning you cannot engross yourself with these puzzles all day long. This makes it a safe way to step away from your responsibilities for a bit, while also forcing you to snap back into reality once you’re done.

Another thing you should probably know about me is that I am not a morning person at all. With that being said, I need time to defrost when I wake up in order to start my day.

What I do to get my brain warmed up is I play these puzzle-like games on my phone.

Overall, I could say that these games have positively affected me and I have compiled a list of how it does:

  • A sense of satisfaction: I have completed something, thus making me feel more motivated to complete more tasks.
  • My mind feels stimulated: The games I play are basically a brain exercise so it makes me feel ready for the day.
  • Increased mood: I was able to do something enjoyable for myself, so it makes me happy!
  • Comfort: I tend to wakeup in the morning feely uneasy because I know I have to tackle a bunch of responsibilities. I have played these games so many times that when I play them I actually become relaxed.

While I know everyone is not a games/puzzle person, I think that if you can find something you like that gives you those similar feelings above, then you will be able to feel more confident about conquering your day.

With that all being said, I highly recommend you downloading the NYT app or an app similar to it. I know individuals at similar ages and stages in life are susceptible to feeling the same way I do with how our generation has grownup.

So take a stab at it and lmk if I pyo! 🙂

P.S. I think this image really represents how modern society acts today when we escape our lives to go on our phone. So just a small disclaimer, obviously all phone use is not good, so take this post with a grain of salt.
