As a second semester senior at SUNY Fredonia, I would say that I’m pretty familiar with the surrounding area.
If you attend school at Fredonia, you know that there are not a lot of things to do close-by. Whether it’s food, shopping stores, or entertainment they seem to be lacking in every area.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Fredonia, or else I wouldn’t have lived here for the last 4 years. It is a small town, so give it the benefit of the doubt, they aren’t going to have much variety to begin with.
This just means you have to dig a little harder to find the hidden gems in the area, as opposed to huge cities that have almost too many options.
To make things easier for a prospective or current visitor of Fredonia, I have categorized my recommendations by food, shops, and entertainment/activities.
So without further a-do, take a look at some of my fave local businesses.
Food:
- Jo Jo’s Asian Cafe: Easily my favorite place to get take-out. Fast and amazingly spiced Thai style food- so underrated.
- Taqueria Mexicana: The most well-known Mexican restaurant in Fredonia is Azteca, but for just a few more minutes in the car you can get such more authentic and tastier food at the fraction of the price at Taqueria Mexicana.
- Fred’s: In my opinion, Fred’s has the best wings in town. Their entire menu is delicious and at a great price too.
- Domus Fare: Best diner food ever. Going here on the weekends for breakfast is a must.
Shop:
- Re.collected: I’ve plugged Re.collected in my blog here before, but I’ll say it again, it’s hands-down best vintage store in the area.
- Lady of the Lake: If you love mystic themed art and jewelry you will love the vibes of this store.
- Tuscany Deli & Meats: While everyone knows Tuscany for their food, they also have a great selection of groceries that you know are great quality.
- East Main Street Liquor And Wine: This is my favorite place to go before the weekend because they have the widest selection and always keep up with the newest releases or trends.
Entertainment/Activities:
- Trivia Night at EBC (Wednesday’s): Such a fun way to get competitive with friends while getting deals on beer and food!
- Karaoke at Valentine’s (Thursday’s): For my 21+ readers, who doesn’t love getting a few drinks and then singing along to your favorite songs???
- Point Gratiot: A cute scenic park over the lake and one of the best beaches near-by.
- Canadaway Creek: You can walk right from campus and it stretches throughout the whole town. Great way to explore while being in nature.
In case you go through all of those…
Here are other places I have heard great things about but have not had the chance to try!
- Food: Sullivan’s Charbroil
- Shop: Papaya Arts
- Entertainment/Activities: Arkwright falls
