Breakfast Ideas That Will Stop you from Hitting Snooze

Breakfast has always been known as “the most important meal of the day”. While I agree, that doesn’t mean it has to be time-consuming or hard to make. So in this post I am going to introduce you to my top 2 meals for the AM!

First we have a staple- oatmeal. Oatmeal is a classic meal to have in the morning but I think that sometimes it gets overlooked because it can seem boring and tasteless- but I’m here to prove you wrong. Throw away your pre-made oatmeal packets and try making your own for a healthier and personalized touch.

What you’ll need:

  • Old fashioned oats
  • Water or milk
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon
  • Honey
  • Nut butter
  • Fruit (my favorites are apple, banana, and blueberries!)

Add-ons (While these can be additional, I highly recommend putting these in to enhance the flavor & texture)

  • Walnuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Flax seeds
  • Chocolate chips
  • Coconut flakes
  • Protein powder

Pro Tip:

If you choose to make it with apples warm-up the sliced apples first with honey and cinnamon so they’re soft and incorporate better with the oatmeal.

If your banana is ripe, try mashing it and then mixing it in with the oats for a more consistent flavor.

You can also cook oats on a stove-top- it follows the same steps you’ll just cook it in a pot.

Steps:

  1. Put equal parts oats and water/milk into a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Add pinch of salt and desired amount of seeds, then mix.
  3. Cook in microwave for the recommended amount that is on the oats package. (I usually do 4 minutes, but it also depends on the consistency you like)
  4. Once done cooking, add nut butter, cinnamon, honey, fruit, and any other toppings.
  5. Enjoy!

My other favorite breakfast is more on the savory side. It’s avocado toast with eggs. While this may sound basic- it is truly addicting and keeps you satisfied for the beginning of your day.

What you’ll need:

  • Eggs
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • Bread
  • Oil or butter
  • Pepper
  • Hot sauce

Add ons:

  • Red onion
  • Mushrooms
  • Spinach
  • Tomato
  • Everything but the bagel seasoning, garlic powder

Steps:

  1. Heat butter or oil in a pan until warm.
  2. Throw in any vegetables if you are choosing to use them. While the veggies are cooking, put bread in a toaster.
  3. Next add in your eggs, I usually do 1 or 2. (Sometimes I scrambled them or I leave over-easy)
  4. Once toast and eggs are done, add avocado to toast and either throw your eggs on top or to the side.
  5. Add pepper, hot sauce, and any seasonings.
  6. Enjoy!
