After disappointing losses against the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Buffalo Sabres last weekend, the Islanders bounced back with two huge wins over the New Jersey Devils and the Washington Capitals.

On Monday night, the Islanders defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-1 at UBS Arena which is something they would like to keep on doing because the Devils is a likely playoff opponent for the Islanders.

Ilya Sorokin stood on his head pure usual with 30 saves, but the real star of the show was Kyle Palmieri who had two of the five goals and even added an assist.

The other goalscorer were Pierre Engvall with his 16th, Bo Horvat with his 37th, and Zach Parise with his 21st. Erik Haula got the lone goal for the Devils with his 9th of the season.

A few nights later, the Islanders traveled to Capital One Arena to take on their division foe, the Washington Capitals.

Pierre Engvall continued his hot streak with another goal for his 17th of the season at 17:08 of the second period.

However, three minutes later Conor Sheary scored his 15th of the season to tie the game up, and it would stay that away until the shootout.

The Islanders are notably known to not be good at the shootout, so fans around the world were expecting the Capitals to come out on top.

Ilya Sorokin made the saves he needed too, and Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri clinched an important win for the Islanders, as every point matters for the rest of the season.

At today’s media availability, Lou Lamoriello announced that Oliver Wahlstrom is out for the season and Mathew Barzal will resume skating on Long Island this week, which would be huge for the Islanders as he has been missing since February 18th.

Wahlstrom got hurt in the December 23rd contest against the Penguins.

The Islanders play the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

What do you guys think of this week’s recap?
