Last year, the New York Islanders selected Matthew Maggio in the 5th round of the draft and sent him to play for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, somewhere he has played for the last three seasons.
Last week, he scored his 50th goal of the season, and it was a beauty of a goal!
Maggio has completely exceeded expectations that anyone has placed on him this season, and has become a serious contender to be up with the big squad in one to two seasons.
If all goes well, he will play a month or two in the AHL with the Bridgeport Islanders when his junior season is over.
In 66 games, Maggio has 54 goals, 57 assists and 111 points so far this season for Windsor.
