After Monday’s terrible loss against the Capitals, it looked like the Islanders were going to miss out on the playoffs for the second straight year.

A few nights later, that turned out not to be the case, as UBS Arena will hold a playoff game for the first time in the building’s history.

With the Penguins very unlikely outcome of a loss against the Chicago Blackhawks, who entered as the third worst team in the NHL, the Islanders just needed a win or an overtime loss to clinch.

In the biggest game in the history of UBS Arena so far, the Islanders showed up in a 4-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens, the fifth worst team in the NHL.

The goalie matchup was Ilya Sorokin vs Samuel Montembeault.

The Islanders scored twice in the first period. Brock Nelson scored his 35th of the season, and Hudson Fasching continued to write his unsung hero story with his 10th of the season.

In the 2nd period, Brock scored his 2nd of the game and 36th of the season.

Brock Nelson continues to improve year after year and we are looking at an Islander legend in front of our very eyes, and it is amazing to see.

Finally, the captain Anders Lee put the dagger into the Canadiens on the power play for his 28th of the season and that was enough for a ticket to the playoffs for the New York Islanders.

On top of that good news, Mathew Barzal and Alexander Romanov should be ready for Game 1.

If the Islanders are going to want to have a chance, the power play has to improve.

While the dates has not been announced, the Islanders will be facing off against the Hurricanes in Round 1.

I honestly think the Islanders have a good chance in this series, especially with Carolina being injured for this round.
