Throughout its history, WWE has always had some of the most electrifying wrestler introductions. WWE has continued to have these iconic wrestler introduction songs and whenever some of these introductions start playing, everyone starts to go crazy. In this article, I will be discussing some of the most iconic WWE introductions of all time and what makes them so iconic.

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin – “Hell Frozen Over”

The first iconic wrestler introduction that we will be covering is for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. As his nickname suggests, this is a stone cold introduction as it starts with the sound of shattering glass that leads into the hard and heavy guitar riff. As the music plays, in the background there is a highlight reel that showcases some of Sone Cold’s best moments in WWE.

Many people have said that the electrifying guitar riffs and the sounds of glass shattering perfectly resembles the intensity Steve Austin brings into the ring every time he makes an appearance. In order to make this song, Stone Cold collaborated with the WWE’s own composer, Jim Johnston, and together they were able to perfect all of the additional elements to the song, especially the shattering glass. According to Johnston, while creating the song “I had difficulty creating a glass break that felt violent enough,” he would also go on to say “It ended up being a combination of three different glass breaks, someone falling downstairs and a car crash all mixed together.” Overall, Stone Cold and Johnston created one of the most iconic introductions in WWE history and it will go down as one of the most iconic in sports.

The Undertaker – “Graveyard Symphony”

The next iconic WWE intro that I will be covering is The Undertakers theme song titled “Graveyard Symphony.” As you could assume from the title, this introduction gives off an eerie feeling as if you’re visiting a graveyard, the bells in the background really help give off that eerie feeling. Unlike Stone Cold’s introduction, this introduction shows some very grim objects as if you’re visiting a graveyard, and this really matches well with The Undertakers aesthetic. What makes this introduction so unique in my opinion is the fact that at any given time, once those bells start playing, he could be anywhere and you know that he’s about to pop up out of nowhere.

The Undertaker has used this as his introduction for more than two decades and it has always continued to be one of the most iconic intros in WWE history. WWE composer Jim Johnston stated that he had initially made this song with a completely different vibe, but after some time, he thought “what if this Superstar was being buried at St. Patrick’s Cathedral? They’d probably play the theme on some gigantic organ and there would probably be a chorus and bells.” Adding the organ and church bells ended up being an amazing decision that really helped mold the song into what we know it as today.

John Cena – “The Time is Now”

Another legendary wrestler with a very iconic introduction is John Cena with his rap song “The Time is Now.” As I just stated, this intro song is a rap song and it’s actually John Cena himself rapping in this song. This song is easily identifiable to wrestling fans and really most people that know who Cena is as it begins with the recognizable beat and with his first line that includes his catchphrase “You can’t see me” and the line finishes with “my time is now.” Ever since Cena debuted this song as his introduction at WrestleMania in 2005, it has been one of the more iconic intros in modern wrestling.

Something that is unique about this song is that it acts as a response and diss at his haters in life and in wrestling. This claim can be backed up by some of the lyrics, but one of the lyrics that really supports this is when Cena raps “If they hate, let ’em hate, I’ll drop your whole clan.” These lyrics can be seen as a diss towards his haters due to the nature of the lyrics and how he calls them out. Regardless of the rumors about whether it’s a diss or not, this intro has continued to have a huge presence in the wrestling industry, and as long as he keeps wrestling, it will continue to hold onto its status as one of the most iconic modern intros in wrestling.

Kurt Angle – “Medal”

Kurt Angle’s introduction song “Medal” is another iconic introduction that is very recognizable for wrestling fans. While it’s iconic and easily recognizable for multiple reasons, one of the reasons why many wrestling fans know this song so well is that it’s an updated version of the song used in the intro for former wrestler “The Patriot.” Another reason why this is so iconic is because of his personality, with his arrogance leading to WWE fans chanting “you suck” with the flow of the song and this gives the song a whole different energy.

The song name “Medal” is very fitting for Angle as he’s actually the only wrestler in WWE to be an Olympic gold medalist. During the introduction video, it shows some of Angle’s wrestling highlights, including some clips of when he was competing in the Olympics. As the video goes on, it occasionally shows some Olympic gold medals, showcasing the fact that Angle won gold medals while competing in the Olympics. Much like the rest of these intros, “Medal” really gets the crowd going whenever it starts playing and this will go down as one of the most iconic intro songs in WWE history if it hasn’t already.

WWE has given some of the most iconic intros in all of sports and they have really been able to show us the personalities of these wrestlers. These introductions have continued to give fans something to get excited about every time these wrestlers participate. I believe that these wrestling intros have brought more life to the sport and I think that there will continue to be new iconic introductions being introduced in the future.
