ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ

No matter what your political affiliation may be AOC is much more than a political figure. She is an activist and more importantly an environmental activist that wants the world to be better for our children, and like who doesn’t? I know you may be thinking “Well we won’t be here anyway” ok sure but come on the world is supposed to be here for a long time so let’s keep it that way!

I want to highlight her political accomplishments a bit because she is quite the congresswoman! If you do not like her or what she stands for skip to the Green New Deal section.

Anywho, AOC was born in the Parkchester neighborhood of The Bronx, she strived to be more. After high school, she attended Boston University and graduated with degrees in Economics and International Relations also having the opportunity to intern in the office of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. “Her role in Senator Kennedy’s office provided a firsthand view of the heartbreak families endured after being separated by ICE. These experiences led the Congresswoman to organize Latinx youth in The Bronx and across the United States, eventually, she began work as an Educational Director with the National Hispanic Institute, a role in which she helped Americans, DREAMers, and undocumented youth in community leadership and college readiness.” Then going on to 2016 Alexandria volunteered as an organizer for Bernie Sanders in the South Bronx. In January 2019, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez was sworn in as the youngest woman and youngest Latina EVER to serve in Congress. Her first piece of legislation was the Green New Deal resolution which brings me to what I will talk about next.

The idea behind the Green New Deal is to phase out fossil fuel use, lessen greenhouse gas emissions, and create high-paying jobs in clean energy industries. If implemented, it would be the first-ever U.S. mobilization on climate change of its size and scale. In April 2021, the Congresswoman reintroduced her Green New Deal resolution – growing the list of co-sponsors to over 115. In the three years since the resolution was first introduced, the Green New Deal has inspired over a dozen pieces of legislation and 10 regional Green New Deals. This is a huge deal!!

I truly believe that someone like Alexandria is here to do better for us and for our world. No matter what you believe, who you like, or who you voted for saving the world should be an important issue for everyone… because we all live here!

Her CLASSIC red lip! ok queen
