Spring break is unfortunately over, which means that your coursework will start to pick up (if it hasn’t already). And, as a newer student to college, this part of college can be the most confusing and draining time period. So, your local senior who’s done this stuff for a while will give you a guide on how to navigate this challenge time also known as the last half of the semester.
- Stop by your professor’s office hours
No one really talks about this tip but I feel that this is really important. Stop by your professor’s office hours and ask them any questions you have about the course work. This also shows them your dedication to their course (which may or may not get you on their good side) But they also are there to help you with some useful information they may have for you, so go for it; they’ll be in their office either way.
- Make a to-do list of what you need to do
This is good for anyone who is running around like a chicken with their head cut off. Getting a to-do list down to reorient you as to what you in fact need to do will help you remember everything, and leads to less of a chance of forgetting that one assignment you’ve been putting off
- Get that sleep
You have probably heard this repeated to you more than once but it is an important one. You want to have as much rest as you can so you can have the best mentality possible and less of a chance of developing health issues due to lack of sleep. Your sleepy brain needs that break!
- Take breaks
Another important one, taking breaks is another one of the best things you can do to make sure you are taking care of yourself during this mentally draining time. After all, a break is just as productive as doing something else productive.
- Understand that you are not alone
This sounds mean but this is also important. You are not alone in this journey and understanding this should help you feel better about this draining time. If you want, you can vent your frustrations on YikYak, trust me, you’ll get those comment and post points.
- Stop by the tutoring office if you are struggling
So, you got your midterm grades back. How do you feel? Are they worse than you anticipated? Good news, the tutoring office on the 4th floor of the Reed Library is here to help you understand your coursework and get those grades that you want.
- Study, study, study
You can’t get those good grades without the work. Taking the time to study a little bit at a time will help you in the long run understand what you are being taught and how you can apply this knowledge to your coursework.
This is essentially a love letter to all students who are trying their best to get through the last half of the semester. Please remember that everyone is going through the same thing, you are not alone in this. Please keep studying and get the grades you want!
