Clubs of the Week: Intercultural Center Edition

When it comes to diversity on-campus, one great place to look and learn about diversity is the Intercultural Center (IC). The IC acts as a hub for both clubs that are geared towards amplifying and empowering diversity on-campus as well as supporting the mental health of students. Through these clubs, students of these groups can feel supported and prideful of their identities. Here are some of the clubs that are from the IC.

  1. Hillel

This club is Fredonia’s Jewish-faith community. They throw events throughout the semester to instill pride within the Jewish students on-campus. In the past, talks have been held that featured survivors of the Holocaust to raise awareness and to combat anti-semitism.

  1. Black Student Union (BSU)

BSU instills pride in the black community on-campus. With events highlighting community and pride among a primarily white campus such as fashion shows, marches, and sip and paints, this club thrives off the celebration of diversity on-campus.

  1. Pride Alliance

This club is all about bringing pride to those in the LGBTQ+ community. With events such as Queer Prom, discussions about topics that pertain to the community, and drag shows, the goal to make sure that those in the community are welcome and loved on-campus is met through this club.

  1. Sister Circle

Empowering women on-campus, especially women of color is the priority of this club. They throw events similar to other clubs such as discussions about topics that pertain to women on-campus as well as events pertaining to breast cancer awareness.

  1. Latinos Unidos

This club’s drive is to instill pride in the latino community on-campus. They throw similar events to the other clubs from the Intercultural Center, but make sure that that community is seen and heard on campus.

  1. Enfusion

This club is actually a dance team that is multicultural and co-ed. These guys appear at events like Homecoming, Activities Night, and other major events thrown on-campus.

  1. Brother 2 Brother

Similar to Sister Circle, Brother 2 Brother empowers men of color on-campus. They also throw similar events to the other clubs from the Intercultural Center.

  1. Blue Ice Step Team

Similar to Enfusion, this club is another multicultural dance team. They have recently came back after a hiatus due to a lack of members.

  1. Fredonia Feminists

Yea ik ik we talked about them before. I just wanted to highlight the fact that this club is a part of the Intercultural Center.

  1. STEPS

This club is probably one of the most different clubs compared to the others on this list. But these guys are important. By educating students about safe-sex practices and maintaining sexual health, these guys make sure that students are acting in safe manners on-campus.

The Intercultural Center hosts many more clubs than this list, but this is essentially a highlight reel of these important clubs. The diversity at Fredonia is one of the most important things that needs to be highlighted more often. But anyways, that’s all I got for this Club of the Week post, if you want me to go into a club that you want to hear more about (or are even a part of), do not hesitate to fill out my Google Form to send me a request, Also, do not forget to fill out you email at the bottom of my home page to get email notifications whenever I post.
