Club of the Week: Transfer Student Organization and Tau Sigma

(More bias incoming because….transfer student)

When it comes to being a transfer student, it’s often difficult to find a place in a club because you are unfamiliar with the campus. Thankfully, there are a few clubs at Fredonia that feature students with the same feelings that you do and students to guide you through those feelings.

The Transfer Student Organization (TSO) (small club so you probably don’t hear much from them), is an organization that is open to all transfer students and acts as a way for students to get acclimated to their new campus without the feeling of being an outsider.

The goal of TSO is to throw social events to prompt other transfer students to interact with other transfer students and to get to know the campus and the people of Fredonia.

Most events thrown by TSO are during October, which features National Transfer Student Week (NTSW). NTSW is a week-long celebration of transfer students that focuses on the aspect of feeling a sense of belonging to Fredonia.

But TSO doesn’t run these events on their own, they often collaborate with Tau Sigma, the transfer student honor society.

Tau Sigma holds similar events throughout the semester, with the priority of celebrating the accomplishments of transfer students.

Tau Sigma’s requirements to be inducted into the honor society are relatively high when it comes to transfer students, as you need a 3.5 GPA your first semester (at Fredonia) and at least one year of credits transferred from the student’s previous institution.

But the standards are high, to highlight to Fredonia and nationally what transfer students can do and celebrate their high academic achievements.

Community service events are also held, and giving back to the community is also one of the priorities of both Tau Sigma and TSO.

So to close this love letter to TSO and Tau Sigma, if you are reading this and you are a transfer student, why not try out some of the upcoming events that they are throwing?

(P.S. April 18th at 7:00-8:00pm TSO and Tau Sigma are hosting a Jeopardy night with ice cream and prizes, pls go)
