When it comes to the musical talent of Fredonia’s campus, one place to look is the many a cappella (ew why is it properly spelled this way) groups.
With around 6 groups at Fredonia, there are plenty of opportunities to find your fit.
Getting into one of these groups is a bit more difficult compared to other clubs and organizations, as you need to audition for them and hope that they love you to get into the group.
Some of these are stricter than others as you must be female-identifying or male-identifying in these female-oriented and male-oriented groups.
Here’s a collective list of the a cappella groups at Fredonia:
- Some Like It Hot
If you spot a cappella group wearing shades of pink and red, chances are that it’s Some Like It Hot. This group is all female-identifying members, which drives them to show off their vocal talent as well as their femininity.
- Much More Chill
Blue is what this group is sporting, as they are an all male-identifying group. During Spring Break, this group even did a tour around the state to local schools and colleges to show off their talent.
- The Riveters
Yellow, yellow, this group is all yellow. Inspired by Rosie the Riveter, this groups sports a yellow shirt as well as a red bandana to show support for strong women, as they are a female-identifying group
- Premium Blend
While normally sporting a purple color during their performances, Premium Blend will be sporting Green during Aca-fest. This group is a mixed gender group, allowing for a blend of different types of voices.
- The Guerrillas
Sporting some darker colors, The Guerrillas, a lower voice group, will be showing off their talents at Aca-Fest among these other groups.
- Dynamic Intonation
Sporting a yellow-goldish color during Aca-Fest, this group is Fredonia’s only Jazz and Pop a cappella group.
This dive into these groups is perfect timing, as Aca-fest Gameday, a collective festival celebrating all the a cappella groups with audience members wearing colors that represent their favorite groups, is coming up on April 13 at 2:00 p.m. at McEwen. Some groups outside of Fredonia will also be participating, with Vocal Minority and The Royal Pitches coming in from different spots in New York State.
So if any of these groups sound super duper cool, you should go to that.
