Songs to Scratch Your Brain

This past week I was hit with this nasty cold. After testing negative for everything, I spent a lot of my time listening to music. Music feels like a warm blanket, so comforting.

In an attempt to open parts of my soul to you, I will be sharing five songs that I consider to be my comfort songs.

As always I could probably write a short book of my comfort songs but here are five that instantly come to mind.

You will see some that are not necessarily slow or a ballad but they scratch my brain perfectly.

Night Shift – Lucy Dacus

This song is one of my go-to songs on any car ride. I bet if I was a performer this would be my karaoke song or at least it should be as I know every word. Lucy Dacus has such a dreamy and warm voice. I feel like I could put all of her songs on this list. Night Shift makes me wanna roll my windows down and drive 100 mph on a fall morning.

Four Dollar Sandwich- Covey

Covey. Covey. Covey. There is a very high chance that Covey will be my top played artist this year in Spotify Wrapped. I have listened to the album Class of Cardinal Sin from front to back more times than I’d like to admit. The storytelling throughout it is unmatched, with cool minifigures to go alongside it. When I saw this song live, he said the song changed so much and that it started out as a song about an actual sandwich. That is very funny to me and I like that he kept the title of the song even though the subject changed.

Jupiter’s Dance- Hurray For The Riff Raff

This song is a great example of a song scratching my brain. Funny thing is I found this song in Fortnite. In the game you have the ability to drive a vehicle and in it plays radio stations made by Fortnite. This song came on, I quit driving and just sat in the car until the song finished. It is so pretty and makes me feel like a floating fairy.

Lone Star – The Front Bottoms

We all saw this coming. Had to include at least one The Front Bottoms song. I chose this one specifically because I didn’t even know what this song was about until like three years after finding it. I will let you figure out what it is about on your own. I often listen to this on long car rides as it keeps me awake.

Candour- Neck Deep

This song being on this list is actually hilarious. Years ago I got in a car accident and as I was spinning into traffic this song was playing. I was then just sitting in a snow ditch listening to this song. HOWEVER I love it. The song feels like a friend. They were the only one with me at the time of the accident. So because of all of this, I find this song very comforting and find myself going back to listen to it often.
