Because our TBR stack should never end, here is a list of the BEST places to purchase books!
Whether it’s because you’re low on books to read or you just simply want to buy more, there’s an abundance of places that you can find great books without spending a fortune.
I’ve compiled a list of some of my FAVORITE places to purchase physical and e-books without breaking the bank, because let’s face it, reading is an expensive hobby.
- Amazon
Now I know what you’re all probably thinking. That this is the obvious choice, and you’re right, but it truly does have its perks and I’m going to give you TWO great ones.
Kindle Unlimited.
Book Bub.
Kindle Unlimited is this AMAZING subscription you can purchase that allows you to read a TON of books without having to purchase them! Authors get paid per page read, and you can return the book back whenever you want. You can borrow up to 20 books at a time, which seems like a lot, but it’s extremely easy to meet that quota!
I’ve found so many great indie authors through KU, and it’s predominately what I read on my kindle. And sometimes, best-selling authors with super famous books appear on KU. There are so many options and there’s no way you won’t be able to find something to read!
Book Bub is something I’ve only recently found, and I’m not sure how I survived without it!
Book Bub is an email subscription you can sign up for. It’ll ask for your reading preferences when you sign up, and then everyday you’ll be sent an email with deals on e-books that are catered toward YOUR reading tastes.
The email will lead you straight to Amazon where you can purchase the e-book at a discounted price, and it’s honestly a blessing and a curse.
It’s great to find new books for my kindle that are, typically, less than four dollars.
But it’s not helping my book buying addition.
But hey, you can’t beat the great deals because they typically only last for that day. Some last longer, but I have a terrible memory, so if I don’t buy the books at that moment then I’ll forget.
2. Barnes & Noble and Books A Million
Again, classic options and they can be pretty expensive, but they always have a ton of deals going on. You just have to look for them!
I’ve found so many great deals on books by waiting for sales and scouring the bargain tables. And occasionally, I’ll purchase some books at full price if I can’t wait.
B&N and BAM have online stores that allow shipping (usually after a certain amount) and have memberships that you can buy to get even more savings! If I lived closer to either of these stores, I probably would invest in at least one.
And a lot of times you can find exclusive editions and signed copies!
3. Walmart and Target
Despite the ads these big businesses put out, we all know they’re not cheap.
I typically use these places to FIND books that I want. The amount of shelf pics on my camera roll is seriously embarrassing.
I like to use these stores to match prices and find the best deal, but I’m not above purchasing from here. These stores are local and can have some great options!
4. Ollies
Now, I know this sounds like an odd place to buy books.
But there truly is no other greater book section than at Ollies.
Their selection is extremely random, but you can find a ton of different books for less than FIVE dollars. Some are super popular and some are less known, but it’s a great way to find new and exciting books that you might not have heard of otherwise!
5. Book Outlet
This is a new store I found (thanks to a Facebook group I’m a part of), and I won’t gatekeep it from you guys.
Book Outlet has a TON of books at a bargain price. Recently, I participated in a sale where ALL fiction was under $6.99.
If you want to see the (too many) books I got, then you can watch my haul 🙂
It has definitely become one of my go-to stores online now, and I can’t wait to find my nearest one!
Now for some honorable mentions.
- Half Priced Books
I wish there were one of these around me because I could get lost in there for hours.
There are so many shelves with so many options, and a good selection of them are second hand! The only downside is the annoying stickers on the covers.
- The Book Loft
This is an AMAZING indie bookstore in Columbus, Ohio. It has 32 rooms of books!
It’s a giant maze and I got lost a few times, but it was the cutest store in the cutest village I’ve ever seen. It’s definitely worth a trip to Columbus, not just for the amazing selection but to also support an indie bookstore!
That’s a wrap on my list of the best places to purchase books!
