It’s Women’s History Month! And what’s a better way to celebrate than telling you some of my favorite books with strong female characters?
For far too long, female characters in books were added to support the men’s journey, whatever that may be. And women weren’t allowed to be authors publicly, and many published under male pseudonyms.
And while the fight for equality isn’t over, we’ve come SO FAR in terms of literature.
We have women authors of all backgrounds and cultures, and stories with women leads depicting their own journeys and hardships!
Women aren’t strong characters just because they can wield a sword and have sarcastic remarks on the tip of their tongue. Sure, that makes them badass, but that’s not the only criteria.
Women are caring, determined, vulnerable, passionate for what they believe in, and so much more. And they’re flawed – the best characters have real flaws just like humans.
So my trusty readers, here are the books that I believe have strong female characters. And they’re (almost) all written by women!
There really isn’t a way to describe their strength without spoiling, so I’ll attach the synopsis and hope you take my word for it! 😉
- Grace Foster – The Crave Series by Tracy Wolff

- Audrey Lee – Break the Fall by Jennifer Iacopelli

- Moira Dreyfuss – The Castle School (for Troubled Girls) by Alyssa Sheinmel

- Avery Grambs – The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

- Hadley Jamison – In 27 Days by Alison Gervais

- Alex Muir – The Depths Series by Madeline Stanford

- Lilly Linton – Storm and Silence Series by Robert Thier

Here are my top SEVEN books with strong female characters. I can’t wait to keep reading my TBR and uncover so many more great women that write equally great women!
(With an exception, of course, for Sir Rob)
Let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of these! And what are some of YOUR favorite books with strong female leads?
Stay tuned for my next post coming this Saturday!
