There is something special about taking the long way. The old fashioned way. The hard way.

Sure, there are planes and trains and buses and cars and bikes, but there’s just something about going for a hike. For a long walk, for a short stroll, to relieve your mind of tolls. To soak in the surroundings, focus on everyday things. You might see the change of the leaves, the blooming of flowers, the golden hues of the sunset hours. You might see a butterfly flutter on by or a squirrel scutter up a tree so it can be in its own world. You never know what you’ll see when you purposely take it slow to get to places you want to go.

Lousy, off-the-top-of-my-head “poetry” aside, here’s a podcast about walking and why some of us enjoy it. Enjoy. =)

And now, a series of Erie Canalway Trail silhouette photos.

Tonawanda.
Pittsford.
Near Clyde. It was technically on “Empire State Trail” not “Erie Canalway Trail,” but that doesn’t help much.
Lockport lock stairs.
Idk where this was.
