This week I visited Luensman Overview Park. Up until a couple weeks ago I had never even heard of this place. After posting about my blog in a Facebook group, I received suggestions for cool places in the area to write about.

I’m really grateful for all of the recommendations, especially this one.

On my way there, I drove through winding country roads with really steep hills. I missed the park entrance at first and had to double back to find it.

The day I went, I couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was clear and sunny skies and the temperature was in the 60s. Since the park doesn’t technically open until May 1st, there was only a couple other people there.

The first thing I noticed while walking up to the top of the hill was the hiking trails. I ventured into the woods and the atmosphere was so peaceful. I could hear all the different birds and the sounds of nature.

When I got to the observation deck, there were two pamphlets available for visitors to take. One was about the park itself and the other listed the various types of birds and how to identify them. Luensman is a popular birdwatching spot. Reading through the pamphlet and listening to the different calls made me want to get into birdwatching more.

The main attraction of the park is the crazy beautiful view of Lake Erie and the surrounding towns. There are a few observation decks and a gazebo at the top. Standing on the deck looking out, it felt like I was on top of the world.

There are also charcoal grills scattered throughout, making it the perfect spot for a cookout or picnic.

I would highly recommend paying a visit to Luensman Overview Park. The heavenly scenery and the sweet sound of the birds created the perfect serene atmosphere.

And I’m sure it’s even better when the park is actually open for the season (May 1st – November 1st). I’ll definitely be coming back soon!
