WARNING: a few curse words will be in this article. BEWARE!
Hello everyone! It is time for another Game of the Week (GOTW) article.
We all know and hopefully, all love this game.
The GOTW is…
“Minecraft”
I grew up playing “Minecraft” on my family’s shared PC. Now, try to imagine sharing a PC with 3 other siblings plus your parents. It was a bit hard since everyone wanted to use or play on the computer.
From what I remember, I usually was able to play the game by myself because my siblings would play whatever games they had and my parents were making dinner or working.
I wasn’t the only one who played “Minecraft”, my siblings would as well. And since you could only have one username, you can imagine we all fought over what our username should be.
Because of all the bickering and fighting with each other, my mother decided on our username.
So my first ever “Minecraft” username was jmtlsa. Which stands for everyone in my family, Jeff (my dad), Melissa (my mom), Tim (my older brother), Leah (my older sister), Sarah (my twin sister), and Abby (me).
Not the most creative but we worked with it.
Since I was playing “Minecraft” for the most part, I got to pick the skin which is down below.
I can’t download the picture of my old skin but here’s the link to it!

“Minecraft” has been a huge part of my life, especially as I got older it became a way I could play with my friends.
“Minecraft” is an open-world sandbox game that has many different features. Those features range from different blocks, animals, monsters and so much more.
This game first came out in 2011, so I was 8 years old when this game was released. I don’t remember what age I first started playing this game but I was probably 11 or 12.
Since I’ve played “Minecraft” since I was young, I’ve seen it change throughout the years. And since every new version that has come out, “Minecraft” has gained more and more of my heart.
In “Minecraft,” there are two different types: Bedrock and Java. From what I’ve found, the bedrock edition is made to work with Windows, console, and mobile platforms. Java is used for Mac, PC, and Linux.
Don’t ask what any of that means because I honestly have no idea.
However, I do know “Minecraft.”
Let’s jump in and discuss what “Minecraft” really is.
Like I said above, “Minecraft” has a range of different aspects and I will discuss a few down below.
Blocks
“Minecraft” uses blocks. Like everything you see in this game is a block or cube or whatever you want to call it.
There are so many different blocks. But Abby; How many are there? No offense but I’m not gonna sit here and count every block in “Minecraft” so let’s just say over 150.
The blocks in this game are the most important thing, which is why it’s the first aspect. These blocks help you build whatever you like. For example, a house, a castle, a waterslide, literally anything you want you can build.
Here is one of the houses I’ve built. The first photo was taken by my boyfriend (he’s is better because of the shaders lol) and the second was taken by me.
When I play “Minecraft,” I usually build my house, then a farm, then a barn, and then whatever else I want. I have spent a good amount of my lifetime building castles that I never finished, sadly.
Here are two pictures of two castles I built. The first one I did finish building the castle. (yes its ugly please don’t look for too long) The second photo I did not even get close to finishing it.
If I had to choose my favorite blocks to build with it would have to be; stone bricks, dark oak wood (everything you can make with it as well), and cobblestone.
Stone bricks.
Dark oak wood.
Cobblestone.
I know, I’m a basic bitch but these blocks make my buildings feel like they belong in a fantasy world.
Tools
But Abby, I can’t get some of these blocks. Well, you will need different tools to get different blocks.
Tools are the most important aspect of this game because you will ALWAYS have some kind of tool or tools in your inventory.
The tools in this game include a pickaxe, sword, axe, shovel, hoe, and a few others. But these I mentioned are the most important to have.
The pickaxe is the most important tool to get different blocks. The sword helps kill animals and creatures. The axe helps you get wood faster. The shovel helps you dig up dirt, sand, etc. much faster. The hoe helps you farm.
Each of these tools can be made from 5 different items: wood, stone, iron, gold, and diamond. There is one more, nephrite, however, you can’t make it with the ore but you can upgrade it.
You can also enchant your tools by using an enchanting table.
The enchanting table helps you put certain enchantments on your weapons. There are many different enchantments, some that help you dig faster, do more damage, and protect you.
You must have lapis, an ore found in caves, a book, and any weapon you want to enchant. You can’t pick and choose which enchantment but one enchantment is better than none.
Armor
Armor is another important aspect. Armor helps protect you from enemies by reducing damage.
Armor can be made from leather, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite. There is also chain armor that you can’t make but you can find it in the game. You can make a helmet, chest plate, leggings, and boots.
Important blocks to have
To make things in this game like tools, bookcases, etc. you need certain blocks that help.
The number one most important block is the crafting table.
The crafting table is exactly how it sounds; it helps you craft items. In this block, you can craft so many different things such as bookcases, stairs, and furnaces.
Furnaces are the next important block.
The furnace helps you smelt ore, cook food, and other things as well. You will need coal, an ore found in caves and sometimes on the surface, to power this block.
Caves
Caves are another important aspect to this game. Caves will help you find different ores which you need to make better tools, better armor and lot’s of other blocks.
In these caves, you can find coal, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond, monsters, lava, water, literally so much we would be here for a while.
“Minecraft” did come out with an update called Caves and Cliffs in 2021. I didn’t think I could love this game even more but when this update came out, I guess that changed.
Here’s a few pictures and clips from my gameplay!
Animals
“Minecraft” has a huge area of animals, creatures, and monsters.
There are four types of these creatures belong in hostile, passive, neutral, and boss.
Boss mobs will be discussed in a separate topic because of how big the topic is.
Let’s discuss passive mobs.
Passive mobs do not attack you. These include pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, villagers, etc. To find a list of all passive mobs, as of right now, click on the link below.
https://www.ign.com/wikis/minecraft/Passive_Mobs
There’s not much to say about these types of mobs but they are great for having company, they are super cute (most of the time), and are important to your survival.
My favorite passive mobs are;
Frogs.
Mooshrooms.
The sniffer.
Here is a clip of me with a sniffer for the first time.
Now let’s move to neutral mobs.
Neutral mobs will attack you IF you provoke them. If you provoke these mobs, they will keep coming after you until you die.
These neutral mobs include but aren’t limited to, bees, enderman, goats, etc. Click the link down below to find more neutral mobs.
https://www.ign.com/wikis/minecraft/Neutral_Mobs
My favorite neutral mobs are:
Wolves.
Piglins.
Polar bears.
I do have a funny clip from my gameplay involving just a ‘few’ piglins that just wanted to say hi to my boyfriend. Check it out right below.
Next, is the hostile mobs.
Now, these bitches can kill you without you provoking them. Because they will always attack you, make sure to carry a sword and even a shield to protect yourself.
The hostile mobs include creepers, zombies, blazes, and a lot more.
Here’s a link to find out more about the hostile mobs.
https://www.ign.com/wikis/minecraft/Hostile_Mobs
My favorites (which is weird to say lol) are;
Chicken jockeys.
Phantoms
Shulkers.
Here’s a clip from my boyfriends pov of me literally spawning like 7 phantoms.
Finally, boss mobs.
The bosses in this game aren’t hard at all.
The first boss is the Wither.
The Wither lives in a separate dimension, which is the Nether. You don’t just stumble upon the Wither but instead, you have to collect two different items to create/build that boss.
Those items are Wither skulls(3 of them) and 4 blocks of soul sand. You must place the 4 blocks of soul sand into a T shape, two on top of each other and one block on each side of the higher block. Then you take the Wither skulls and place those on top of the soul sandblocks. And ta-da!
You spawn the Wither, good luck.
I HATE the Wither. The Wither is just so fucking annoying because they throw wither skulls at you which then blows up. They also give you a withering effect which does hurt you over time.
I will say, out of these three bosses, the Wither is the best to first fight. He’s not hard at all just more annoying.
The next boss is the Warden.
The Warden isn’t considered a boss and I understand why. However, in my opinion, the Warden is a boss. Not only is the Warden hard to beat, BUT HE IS SO SCARY.
I have screamed before. A lot.
The Warden lives underground in the ancient city.
The Warden is not visible until you trigger a sculk shrieker.
If you make any sudden movements, such as running, eating, mining something, or whatever, another block, the sculk sensor, will trigger the sculk shrieker.
The sculk shrieker will go off and SCREAM! Sometimes the screams will trigger the Warden to spawn but sometimes it doesn’t.
Here is a picture of the blocks that are in the ancient city!
For me, it usually takes four screams for the Warden to spawn but once he does, oh my goodness.
I still have not defeated the Warden and I don’t think I will at any time.
One special detail about the Warden, he’s blind. So he relies on his smell, his hearing, and the vibrations made to find you.
If you ever do run into an ancient city, make sure you are crouching, don’t make any sudden movements, carry wool to mask your sound, and if he does spawn, run for your life. Or fight him but that’s your choice.
I wish I had clips or pictures to show all of you but when I was near him, I was freaking out. Maybe if I find him and spawn him again, I will try to clip it.
The final boss is the Ender Dragon.
This is considered the main boss in “Minecraft.” The Ender Dragon is located in another dimension, the End.
How you get to the End is by crafting the eye of an ender (an ender eye and blaze powder) and you keep throwing them into the sky until they sink to the ground. Once they do, you can dig down and you stumble upon a stronghold.
In this stronghold, you will need to search for the end portal and once you do, you must place around 12 eyes of the ender to make the portal.
Once you’ve done this, you can finally go into the End.
The Ender Dragon is considered the final stage of the game, so once you kill it, the end credits will roll and you will finish the game.
Yes, you can go back to your house and just continue where you left off.
Once you get to the End, you will notice 10 obsidian pillars with a crystal on the top. (The top picture you can see what the pillars look like).
You must get rid of these crystals (use a bow and arrow for this). If you don’t destroy these crystals and just fight the Ender Dragon, you won’t be getting very far.
These crystals help heal the Ender Dragon so if you want to kill it, you must destroy the crystals.
I usually only defeat the Ender Dragon with my friends because I would probably die multiple times and give up.
After defeating the Ender Dragon, you are able to explore the End. BUT be careful! Shit is scary. Like look at the clip below.
Here’s a clip of me and my friends defeating the Ender Dragon.
From what I’ve told you so far are, in my opinion, the basics you need to know about “Minecraft.” This is a huge game to explore and is a lot of fun, especially when you play with others.
My fondest memories of this clip are when I play with my friends. It’s so much fun laughing with one another and just having a good time.
Here are some clips below that are some of my favorites.
The clip above is from my boyfriends pov. I’m the one that screamed.
Like I said above, “Minecraft” is a huge game and there’s a lot more I could talk about.
However, that will be for another time/article so keep an eye out!
“Minecraft” is one of the most popular and, in my opinion, one of the best games out there. This game is good for those who are just starting.
With unlimited areas to explore and the fun that accompanies this game, there is no doubt you will not enjoy it.
If you don’t like this game, that’s valid! That’s your opinion and I understand.
I have no negative comments about this game. Everything about this game receives a positive review.
“Minecraft” will always hold a special place in my heart for all the right reasons.
If I had to give this game a rating it would be like infinite stars. However, my rating scale is not that huge.
The rating for this on Crystal’s rating scale is…
5 out of 5 stars!
