The more I start to write these stories, the harder it is to choose a game.
I play a decent amount of games every week so having to choose only one or two, oh my goodness it’s hard.
For this game of the week, it is… “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”
“Animal Crossing” was and still is one of my favorite games to play (not when I’m getting harassed by Tom Nook to pay my 1,000,000 Bell loan, which I will discuss later).
I remember the first time I heard about “Animal Crossing” back in my freshman year of high school.
My best friend at the time (who is still my best friend), was like “Abby, you have to play this game.” She showed me “Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp” and I found a new love.
After playing that for some time, I remember hearing “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” coming out in my junior year of high school.
At the time, I didn’t have a Nintendo Switch so I had no way to play the game. I was telling my brother that I really wanted to play this game and my brother decided for my birthday to give me his Nintendo Switch Lite and even bought me the game.
Ever since April 2020, it’s the one game I’ve been able to play and actually enjoy.
Enough of my past story of getting into this game, let’s talk about the game as a whole.
“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” is a video game made by Nintendo Switch and is the fifth game of the “Animal Crossing” series.
You are only able to play this game on the Nintendo Switch consoles. This sucks if you don’t have a switch but it is understandable.
Now in this game, you are able to control a character (that you design) and move to a deserted island.
On this deserted island, there are two other animal villagers who move there with you.
While you are on this island, you are able to craft, fish, catch bugs, dig up fossils, literally anything and almost everything. Being able to just run around on a deserted island with three other villagers, shake trees, and hit some rocks was so soothing to me.
The different types of fish you can catch are insane. Like I should not be able to catch some of these bad boys, like why are they so close to the shore?
For example, this one.
The more you play, the more shops and villagers you can receive. You can have a total of 10 different villagers on the island.
Back to what I said in the beginning about having an OUTSTANDING LOAN! Yes, you will be just as broken in this game as you might be in real life. I know I am.
Where are these loans coming from? Who is charging you? WHO IS ROBBING YOU?!?! I’m glad you asked!
These loans are coming from you upgrading your house. The animal behind this loan management is a Japanese raccoon dog named Tom Nook.
As much as I want to say very nice things about Mr. Nook, he honestly pisses me off that I physically can’t say anything.
I think he’s a dope businessman just trying to make a living, HOWEVER, the loans are OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE!
I believe the last loan payment for your house (which is adding a basement) is about 2,500,000 bells. Literally insane.
Such as getting another room, getting an upstairs room or even just expanding a room already in your house.
You may be asking; HOW AM I GOING TO AFFORD THESE LOANS?!?
Well, you don’t necessarily have a job however, you have access to a shop called Nook’s Cranny where you can sell anything (besides fake artwork and villagers’ lost items).
Nook’s Cranny is run by two twin raccoons, Timmy and Tommy. They are absolutely ADORABLE! I love them so much.
I have been able to buy so many cool items from Nook’s Cranny. Like I once made my whole island look like something straight out of a fantasy game.
It looked like this!
All of the money that you make in this game, will most likely go towards paying off your house loans, paying off loans from building stairs and bridges, and finally, the amount of clothes that you will buy.
Almost all of my home storage is full of clothes. I bought all these clothes from the Able Sister’s Shop, which is run by Sable, Mable, and Label. Love them so cute, that you will have to play just to find all the cute outfits.
For example, here’s a screenshot from my gameplay of one of my favorite outfits. This photo is also used on the homepage of my website.
I think the best aspect of this game is the ability to play with other people. I’m able to open my airport gates and get all of my friends to come over and just chill.
Or I could take a plane ride over to one of my friends and shop, explore their island, go to the museum, etc.
Here’s a screenshot of my boyfriend and I hanging out together on his island!
Because this game has so many great qualities, there isn’t anything that I can think that this game has or does that makes me mad. Besides how outrageous some of the loans are, it’s kind of showcasing reality in today’s world.
If you are looking for a game that is easy to start off with and will entertain you for quite some time, “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” should be that game.
On my 5 gold star rating scale, this game gets 5 out of 5 golden stars!
