We all know this game.
We know it brings new friendships, love, hate, and the urge to destroy every one of your friends.
This game, one that challenges my friendships every time I play with my friends, is one of a kind.
The GOTW is…
“UNO”
Yes, this game of the week is “UNO.” I’ll be discussing the online version of “UNO,” the one you can play off of Steam.
“UNO” was originally made in 1971 by Merle Robbins. Robbins made this game to resolve an argument with his son that was about the rules of “Crazy Eight.”
We all know what “UNO” is but if you don’t, I’ll give you a simple explanation.
“UNO” is a card game where the main focus is to be the first player to get rid of all of your cards.
This game is a multi-player card game but this version of the game is a multi-player online card game.
If you’ve played “UNO” before you know just how intense this game can get, especially playing with your family.
You end up breaking a bond with your mother just to save your sister (really to save yourself from your sister telling your mother every deepest, darkest secret she knows about you).
I grew up playing “UNO.” Not as much as some families but we played it enough for me to know the main rules.
The online version of “UNO” provides an easy way to play your favorite game with your family, no matter where you are!
I play “UNO” occasionally with my friends and it questions our friendships.
If you don’t have anyone to play with you, you can play with an AI but beware, these AIs do NOT MESS AROUND!
The rules of “UNO”
Now, no one gets mad at me for what this section will have. I am listing the rules that “UNO” has posted online so this is all of them.
I know we all make up our own rules for games, I know my family does, but this is NOT ME!
1. Matching the color, number, or symbol.
If you don’t have the color, number, or symbol that matches the one on the pile, you must pick up a card until you DO pick up a card that matches the symbol, color, or number.
For example, in the image above you see there is a blue 7 on the pile. The person who’s cards we can see, have two different cards they can place down. A blue 1 card and a blue 9 card. These are the ONLY cards they can place down.
2. Stacking.
This is probably the WORST rule. When someone draws a draw two or a wild draw four cards, another player can add to that pile.
So for example, if I place down a draw 2 card, the next player can also place down a draw 2 card. This then means the next player, let’s say they don’t have a draw 2 card, then has to pick up 4 cards.
Terrible. I have screamed at my friends and family for this move.
3. Game of 7s and 0s.
If you have a card with a 7 on it and you place it down, you can switch your cards with another player’s cards.
This can be annoying at times but it brings out some of the best memories and laughs.
For the 0s aspect, if someone places a card with a 0 on it, it forces all players to take all of their cards and pass them down in the order played.
This is also funny but my god, when I get so close and someone pulls this move, you best believe I will seek revenge.
A clip is down below of a funny game between two of my friends and one AI where we had an unlimited amount of 7s.
4. Jump in.
If someone puts down any card and you have that exact card, you can jump in and place that exact card down.
For example, if I place down a yellow 5 and the person before me has a yellow 5 too, they can jump in and place that card down. Making it my turn once again.
These are the main rules that I found on the “UNO” website. There are a few more within the game and its DLC but that’s for all of you to explore.
“UNO” is one of those games where if you can’t find anything else to play, you can play this game.
There have been times when my friends and I don’t want to play “Overwatch 2” or “Minecraft” so we settle for “UNO.”
There are also times when one game might make us angry (“Overwatch 2”) so we will get out of that game and decide to play a chill game to relax.
That’s not the case though.
I feel as though we get more mad at “UNO” than we do at “Overwatch 2.”
We take the game very seriously.
Explicit language is used in the clips below!
“UNO” doesn’t always bring out anger, it also brings out the taste of winning. Especially when the game has been going on for quite some time.
Not only does this game make you get a taste of sweet revenge, but it also can make you laugh your butt off.
I know a lot of people give this game bad reviews but I don’t see any negative things about this game.
Maybe my anger issues have developed way worse. Maybe I scream a bit too loud when I win. Or maybe how my face hurts so much after playing and laughing along with my friends.
“UNO” has been a significant game since my childhood and still is today.
To rate “UNO” on Crystal’s rating, it would be a…
