This next game I will be discussing is, in my opinion, one of the funniest games ever.
There is not a time when I am not laughing my ass off.
The GOTW is…
“Dead Island.”
“Dead Island” is one of the funniest fucking games I have ever played.
I first played “Dead Island” in 2016, maybe 2017 on my Xbox One. My sister watched me play this and it was hilarious.
Ever since I first played this game, it’s been on my list of games I love.
“Dead Island” is an action-filled, role-playing game where zombies have overtaken an island called Banoi. The main goal of this game: get the FUCK out of there!!
There are 4 characters you can play: Sam B, Xian Mei, Logan Carter, and Purna Jackson.
There is another character but you can’t play him. I have no idea who he is but I think his name might be John? But anyways, we will focus on the 4 I mentioned above.
The main thing to know about these four characters: they are immune to the virus (HK5 virus, which creates all the zombies).
Sam B
Sam B is a rapper and he plans to perform at Banoi Royal Palms Resort on Banoi Island. Here, he performs his hit song, “Who Do You Voodoo?”
I fucking love this song so you should take a listen.
The night after his performance, he and the other three discover an outbreak of zombies that has taken over Banoi Island.
Sam B is placed in the ‘tank’ class and comes with these stats.
Sam B’s stats are; 110 health, 100 speed, and 90 stamina, and his speciality is the use of blunt weapons.
Xian Mei
Xian Mei is the character I would choose first. Everything about her, in my opinion, makes her one of the strongest characters to choose.
Xian Mei was an employee at the Royal Palms Resort but became a spy for the resort to spy on the wealthy customers and guests at Banoi Royal Palms Resort.
Xian Mei is placed in the ‘assassin’ class and comes with the stats listed below.
Xian Mei’s stats are; 90 health, 100 speed, 100 stamina, and her speciality is the use of sharp weapons.
As I said above, she is one of my favorite characters, mainly because of her specialty in using sharp weapons.
Being able to cut off zombies’ heads or even their whole body in half makes her skills effective in taking large crowds of zombies down.
Logan Carter
Logan Carter is a former American football player.
Logan Carter is placed in the ‘Jack of all trades’ class and comes with very strong stats that are listed below.
Logan Carter’s stats are: 100 health, 100 speed, and 80 stamina and his speciality is the use of projectiles.
I don’t choose Logan Carter. He would be the last person I would choose.
Purna Jackson
Purna Jackson is a former police officer. She was fired for improper conduct. Her job now is being a bodyguard for VIPs.
Purna Jackson is placed in the ‘support/leader’ class and her stats are below.
Purna Jackson’s stats; are 100 health, 100 speed, and 90 stamina, and her speciality is the use of firearms.
She is my second choice if I wasn’t feeling like playing Xian Mei.
To rank these characters in the order I would play them, it would be:
-
Xian Mei
-
Purna Jackson
-
Sam B
-
Logan Carter
Banoi Island
Banoi Island is the main setting of this entire game. There are different areas of the map which we will get into later.
Banoi is located just north of Australia and holds the popular Banoi Royal Palms Resort.
Though this island is known for its hotels, tropical beauty, and tropical paradise, it takes a wild turn and turns into a tropical nightmare.
This, now tropical nightmare, is covered with zombies.
There are four different areas of the map in the 4 acts taken during this game.
In Act 1, we have the resort map.
The Resort
Here is a photo of the entire resort map.
This is where the game begins. Located on this map are different areas the player(s) can explore.
Such as the lifeguard station, Banoi Hotel, lighthouse, and a lot more.
Each of these areas is covered with zombies, so if you decide to explore, be prepared to fight a LOT of zombies.
Any clips in this area
In Act 2, we have the city of Moresby map.
The City of Moresby
After Act 2, we move into the city of Moresby, which is (if you haven’t guessed it, overrun by more zombies).
In this area, there are different places just like in the resort map.
Here’s a picture of the entire map.
These places include the sewers, the police station, the church, and a lot more.
This is probably my second least favorite place to play in this game. It’s personally terrifying because not only are there zombies but there are also people who will shoot at you.
I hate this place with all my heart and if you don’t believe me.
Here’s a clip of someone coming out of nowhere and attacking me.
In Act 3, we have two different maps. The first one is the jungle map.
The Jungle
Here’s a picture of the jungle map.
The Jungle is FUCKING TERRIFYING.
The Jungle is exactly like it sounds, a jungle.
There aren’t many people here but there are even more fucking zombies than you can think of.
This map does have other places as well such as the central infested village, Gaia Falls, the northern infested village, and a few other places.
This place just scares the shit out of me. This is my least favorite map. It’s fucking terrifying, especially for a certain zombie which I will get into later.
The Laboratory
This is the second little map in Act 3. This place is not bad. It’s not my favorite, but I don’t hate it as much as the jungle.
On this map, we find areas such as the Geo-Pharm Lab complex, Ope’s Cave, and a few other places as well.
This map is probably the smallest in this game. There aren’t many places to go but it still has the same thing as the other maps; a shit ton of zombies.
In the final act, Act 4, is the prison map.
The Prison
The prison map takes place in, you guessed it, a prison.
This prison is called the Banoi Maximum Security Prison and is our final location in the game.
This prison is on a small island surrounded by a minefield.
There isn’t much to say about this map, mainly because we aren’t here for long. This is where the final battle is located and where we end the game.
To rate the different maps of “Dead Island” from my most loved to most despised, it would be in this order:
-
The Resort
-
The Prison
-
The Lbortrary
-
The City of Moresby
-
The Jungle
Now let’s get into the zombies of this game.
When and if you do play this game, you will understand my ranking.
Ranking of certain zombies:
1. Butcher
This motherfucker IS TERRIFYING!!! You know the zombie I was talking about above when I was talking about the jungle map? YEAH! IT’S THIS MOTHERFUCKER!
He fucking BOOKS it to you! Like this man fully sprints at you and guess what? HE DOESN’T HAVE ANY ARMS!
His arms are sharpened radial bones. FUCKING INSANE! WHAT DID HE DO?? START CHEWING ON HIS ARMS??
2. Ram
This dude pisses me off. He’s literally in a crazy suit so there’s that.
He will charge at you in a straight line so it is pretty easy to avoid him. But if you can’t and he hits you, oh he hits HARD!
They are also really hard to kill! My advice, run them over with a car. It works so much better than hitting him with a weapon because you will do either little or no damage at all.
3. Suicider
The suicider zombies are not the worst. It’s very easy to kill them because they will blow themselves up once you get close enough.
It’s very easy to outrun them but if you somehow can’t, you will take a decent amount of damage.
4. Thug
These guys are so silly. I love these guys. They are pretty big zombies and they do a lot of damage when they hit you.
However, if you have a sharp weapon, it’s easy to cut off parts of their body.
That’s why I play Xian Mei.
These aren’t all of the special zombies but these are a few just to give you guys an example.
Here is one of my favorite clips from playing “Dead Island” with my boyfriend.
Let’s talk about the pros of this game.
Pros
- This game is extremely fun when you play with friends but also when you play with yourself.
- The customization of the weapons and just the weapons in general, are so fun to play around with and kill zombies.
- The story. I love story games. The story behind this game is amazing and it’s easy to follow along.
Now let’s talk about the cons of this game.
Cons
- The leveling system. It’s not the worst but it’s not the best either. No matter what kinds of zombies you kill, it gets a bit hard to level up.
- Hit detection. Sometimes I go up to a zombie to fuck them up and it doesn’t register that I swing my weapon. It does suck because then I lose some health and I have to use more of my stamina.
There weren’t too many cons and I will say these cons do not affect my love for this game.
Some of the clips below are insanely funny and it shows you just how much fun this game is.
To end this post with a little summary, “Dead Island” is one of the best zombie-apocalyptic games I’ve ever played (as of right now).
First played “Dead Island” when I was little and the fact that I am still playing now, says something.
The characters are amazing, especially with their different personalities, stats, and strengths. \
The locations and different areas of this game help give more scenarios and exploration for this game.
The story, which I didn’t get into because you need to play it to understand it, is amazing.
All in all, this game is amazing and I definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a great zombie survival game.
To rate this on Crystal’s rating skill, I give it a…
