As I have said many times before, in no way am I an expert in makeup.
This specifically applies to my ability in putting on liquid eyeliner.
I have always been rather bad at the process — so much so that I convinced myself for years that I could not pull off winged liner.
However, after far too many failed attempts with liquid liner, I ended up trying to use eyeshadow.
I now use a black or brown eyeshadow to put on eyeliner, and I use an angled brow brush to apply the shadow.
I first draw the diagonal line from the corner of my eye and then fill out the rest of the wing.
This process is much more forgiving. If I mess up at all, I literally just take my finger and smear the eyeshadow.
If I make a really bad mistake, I take some micellular water and a q-tip to fix up the edges.
I have found this method can also be fun when incorporating other eyeshadow colors to the wing.
Just the other day, I applied a red shadow to the outer edge of the wing. I felt like this made the look pop and feel so much more interesting.
It was super quick and easy to do as well.
The downside of not using liquid liner is that the wing doesn’t look as crisp as it would with liquid liner.
The eyeshadow looks a little messier and blurred at times, but I personally like the way it looks better than liquid liner.
So, if you are feeling defeated from attempting to use liquid liner because your hand is too shaky or you just can’t seem to get the hang of it, try using eyeshadow.
You may just discover you look great with a wing that is much easier to apply.
I’ve been doing this trick for a while, now! I feel like I always get raccoon eyes when I use an actual liner.
Love this. Eye makeup is my specialty when I do makeup and I love using both liquid and eyeshadow liner depending on the look I want to do. Sometimes I try to emulate Bella Hadid by doing shadow liner with a dark brown color and drawing a wispy line upward to lift the eye. Super cuteeee
